As the global pandemic continues to keep many people confined to their homes, virtual movie nights are becoming increasingly popular. These shared viewing experiences are helping to strengthen social bonds and provide a much-needed sense of community.
According to a survey conducted by the streaming service Netflix, 36% of respondents said they had attended a virtual movie night in the past month. This trend is driven primarily by people in their 20s and 30s, who are more likely to have access to streaming services and the technology required to host these events.
These findings echo other research into the effects of virtual movie nights. A survey by The Harris Poll found that 73% of respondents said that watching movies with friends or family online had made them feel more connected and less isolated.

The study also showed that virtual movie nights can have a positive impact on mental health. Nearly half of those surveyed said that watching movies with friends had improved their mood, while 55% said it had made them feel more relaxed.
Organizing virtual movie nights can be as simple as sending out an email or a text message. All that’s needed is an internet connection and a streaming service like Netflix or Hulu.
